Kellton Deploys Edge To Cloud Telemetry Across Remote Oil India Wells
Key challenges
Production tracking across 77 producing wells on 46 plinths relied on manual field rounds and after-the-fact historical data, leaving the operator without real-time insight into wellhead conditions.
Wellhead parameters — flow-arm, tubing, casing and B-annulus pressures, flow-arm temperature, and gas-lift injection flow — were not centralised, making trend analysis and reporting slow and fragmented.
Sites sit in a demanding environment: remote locations within ~100 km of Duliajan, seismic Zone V, ~300 cm annual rainfall, 7–42°C ambient, and many wells off-grid.
Reliable wireless communication and uninterrupted data availability had to be guaranteed across distributed wells, with no data loss during connectivity failures.
Client in spotlight
Oil India Limited (OIL), with origins dating back to 1889 — the year of India's first oil discovery — is a fully integrated exploration and production company in India's upstream oil and gas sector. A Maharatna Company and state-owned enterprise under the Government of India's Ministry of Petroleum and Natural Gas, OIL is the second-largest national oil and gas company in India. OIL engaged Kellton to design, supply, install and commission a cloud-based wellhead monitoring system across its well plinths in Assam — bringing real-time digital visibility to one of India's most critical upstream operations.
